Some Edited Photo's For front cover

Evaluation Student Mag

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
  • I have put a picture of a fellow student on the front and that is what often features on the front cover of a student magazine
  • The colours used are bright to give a friendly vibe
  • The image itself is of someone who is smiling so that the readers feel like they are being welcomed to read it
  • The cover lines used are of relevance to what a student would want to read about
  • Not too complicated to navigate
  • The contents is not too crowded and the features are put under headings so it is easy to navigate and they can get straight to the feature they want.
  • On the contents page I have used images as well as text to show what is featured in the magazine

How does your media product represent particular social groups?
  • The cover lines I have used are aimed at my audience as they are subjects that a typical student would want to hear about
  • I have also put an offer on there to win tickets to Alton towers theme park, this is something that teenagers are generally interested in and find exciting. If I aimed this at older people it may be free spa treatments or tickets to a concert or performance for example.
  • The language is informal as teenagers generally do not want to read a formal piece of text in their student magazine.
  • Image of student is of the same age range as individuals who would read the magazine
What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

As many colleges already have student magazines available I would have to show how mine would be better. Having a vote carried out by the students would show if my magazine would be suitable to publish or whether the students are already happy with the service they are already getting from their current student magazine.

Who would be the audience for your media product?
  • 16-19 years
  • Male and females although females may be more inclined to buy the magazine.
  • They like socialising with friends and college bashes.
  • They will have an interest in their college
  • They will have an interest in their studies and how they can get extra help
  • They would like to know information about universities
  • Some may have worries about ema
How did you attract/address your audience?
  • It is eye catching with bright colours
  • Images appeal to the audience
  • I would make it neater if I did is again and use a different colour scheme and maybe add more images of students
  • I made it affordable as my audience are students
What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
I have used publisher and gimp. I have learnt how to use them more effectively however I believe if I had more skill in these then my magazine would have looked a lot more professional. For my final task I aim to better my skills in these programmes.

Textual Analysis

I am now going to look at a front cover and a contents page and carry out a Textual analysis.
  • Smart Talent is the largest font on the page. This fact grabs the reader's attention and makes them look at it. It is also, the word "talent" is a different font to what is on the rest of the front cover. This suggests that it is the most important feature of the magazine. it also hints at what the content of the magazine and suggests that if you read the magazine you are talented or can become talented.
  • The picture on the front of the magazine is positioned so that the eye line of the man is generally in line with where the reader will be looking. This makes the magazine seem more intimate and personal. By doing this it could make more people buy the magazine as it gives off a friendly vibe. The picture itself is done in a quirky, abstract way. This suggests that the magazine is aimed at the younger generation as it has  more modern "hip" look to it. The man featured (MC RIZ) is said to be a "rising star" by this magazine; another suggestion to it's target audience. The younger generation may be able to relate to this man and want to follow in his footsteps, therefore will want to read more about him. The fact that his picture is used could draw people in and attract people to buy it alone.
  • The colours used on the page suggests that it is aimed towards a female audience. This is because of the pink colours used. However, the turquoise and white contrasts suggests that it is a magazine that would appeal to both sexes. The use of a male on the front implies it is for males as well as females despite the colours used.
I am now going to do a textual analysis on a contents page...

The contents of this magazine is very simple. this implies that it's purpose is not to grab attention and supply teens with gossip. This is also backed up by the pictures that are used on the page. they are pictures of people in suits who look important as opposed to celebrates.
The actual content that is shown
